It’s been said that one must be Catholic to serve the Vodou spirits. This adage is true because Vodouists are devout Roman Catholics who pay homage to the Vodou spirits. In this presentation, we will explore the current Vodou beliefs and practices, and the historical processes by which these spirits brought to Haiti from West Africa during the colonial period (1492-1804) were reinterpreted in terms of Roman Catholic traditions.
Presented by Dr. Leslie Desmangles, Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies and International Studies at Trinity College in Hartford. This program is part of the One Book, One Wallingford series. No registration required.
