The book to be discussed on Sunday, January 28th at 2:00 p.m. will be The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist missionary who takes his family to the Belgian Congo in 1959. It is the tale of one familys tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa. In a compelling exploration of religion, conscience, imperialist arrogance, and the many paths to redemption, Barbara Kingsolver has brought forth her most ambitious work ever. Feng Shui: How to Bring Positive Changes Into Your Home & Work Environments Feng Shui (pronounced Fung Shway), the ancient art of balance and placement that originated in Asia over 5,000 years ago, can positively transform your home and work environment. Based on principles from design, ecology, architecture and mysticism, the goal of Feng Shui is to create a more open and peaceful atmosphere, and prom mote physical and spiritual well being. Blending with any style of home decor and with any type of work environment, both homes and businesses have benefited.On Thursday, February 8th at 7:00 p.m. Susan Pildis will give a free program on Feng Shui at the Library. Through the powerful tools of Feng Shui, you can learn how to: increase your sense of well-being,develop creativity and openness to opportunities, improve your ability to focus, increase your productivity, improve your relationships, and enjoy more harmony and balance in your home and work environments. Managing Your Stress!!! Pat Howland, a Counselor and Assistant Professor at Quinnipiac University, will lead a free workshop on how to manage stress on Thursday, February 15th at 7:00 p.m. The workshop will address how to manage stress sot that you control "it" rather than letting it control you. Stress comes from a variety of sources. Because each of us react differently to the things that cause us stress, Pat will introduce a wide variety of tools for stress management and relaxation. Participants will become familiar with a variety of options for use after the workshop. All who attend should learn more about how they react to stress and how to cope with stress in a more creative and effective way. Helpful handouts will be given out. Participants are encourage to wear comfortable clothing. Pat Howland has given several programs at the Library during the past few years. She holds an M.A. and a B.A. from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Divinity from Yale University. Pat is licensed by the State of Connecticut as a Professional Counselor and a National Board-Certified Counselor. She has published articles in several professional journals and is the recipient of a number os professional awards.
