Summertime and the Reading Is Easy
2013 Teen Summer Reading Program
July 1st-August 30th
Earn prizes by reading books this summer! All teens in grades 6-12 are welcome to participate. No registration is necessary. You may read whatever you like.
The program is super simple…when you have finished reading a book, come to the Information Desk and fill out a prize entry form to qualify to win a prize of your choice. Entry forms will be accepted up until 9 pm on Friday, August 30th. There will be a drawing on Tuesday, September 3rd and all winners will be notified. All participants are eligible for the grand prize drawing: a $50 Wal-Mart gift card.

You can use your school summer reading titles as well as e-books and audio books in the program.
Our programming this summer offers something for everyone. All programs are open to all teens in grades 6-12 unless otherwise noted. Please be sure to sign up in advance as slots are limited and tend to fill up quickly. You may register in person at the Information Desk, by phone, or through our online calendar. Duct Tape Workshop
Thursday, July 11th, 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Community Room

Book Discussion: The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Tuesday, July 16th, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Collins Room
Is summertime too sunny and cheerful for you? Are cold, foggy cemeteries more your thing? We will be reading and discussing The Graveyard Book this Summer. It is Neil Gaiman’s supernatural retelling of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. Refreshments will be provided. Copies of both books are available at the Information Desk. Basic Hula Workshop
Monday, July 22nd, 6:30- 8:00 p.m. in the Community Room
Workshop leader Kaye (Kekai) Colello will transport you to Hawaii. Enjoy a performance by Hula haumana (students) and then become a student yourself as you learn several traditional dances. Creative Writing Workshop
Tuesday, July 23rd, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Collins Room
Do you love to write? Come to a writing workshop on inspiration and the creative process. Learn how to write from a place deep within yourself. Open to all students in grades 4-7. Please register in the Children’s Room.
Anime Night
Thursday, August 8th, 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Community Room

Korean Cooking Demonstration

The Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project will present a program on the tastes of Korea. Watch a cooking demonstration and sample traditional Korean dishes.

Henna Workshop
Thursday, August 22nd, 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Collins Room
Join us for a presentation on the history and modern use of henna. Each teen will receive a henna tattoo of their choice. The design will last from 1-3 weeks.
