Meet the Author: Charles Monagan

Wednesday, September 27th, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Community Room
Charles Monagan knows Connecticut. As editor of Connecticut Magazine for decades, he spent years discovering and describing the people, places, and things that comprise the character of his home state. With Connecticut Icons: Classic Symbols of the Nutmeg State, an entertaining collection of photos, anecdotes, and little-known facts, Monagan presents 50 of his favorite icons–from the hot lobster roll to the Yale Bowl, the U.S.S. Nautilus to the Merritt Parkway–and shows natives and newcomers alike the independent spirit and local pride at the heart of this great state.

Bike Clinic With Jared Liu

bicycleThursdays in October, 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Collaboratory

Week 1 (Oct. 5th) – Tubes, Tires, and Wheels
Week 2 (Oct. 12th) – Frame, and Chain, and Drivetrain
Week 3 (Oct. 19th) – Brakes, Shifting, and Cabling
Week 4 (Oct. 26th) – Gears, Freewheels, and Cassettes

This four-week class will cover the basics to keep your bicycle in good condition and handle most repairs by yourself. This includes understanding the parts of a bike and how they work together, getting to know common tools and what you’ll need to get started, and actually getting your hands greasy with routine repairs. This class with Wallingford resident, Jared Liu, will meet in the Collaboratory on Thursdays in October from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Please only sign-up if you can attend all four sessions. Because it’s limited to 10 people, preference will be given to those who commit to spreading the knowledge and helping others in town with their bicycle needs.
