A library card gives borrowing and usage privileges at Wallingford Public Library and the Yalesville Branch Library, as well as all public libraries in Connecticut. It also provides access to the Library's online resources. Library cards are required for checking out materials and for using many library services. Most cards expire after five years. Residents of Wallingford with identification may obtain a library card for free, although a replacement fee of $1.00 is charged for lost cards.
Applications can be made in person at the Main Library or at the Yalesville Branch or online. When you sign up for a library card online, you will be given a unique 7-digit number, which will give you immediate access to some of our e-resources, including our catalog (reserves), OverDrive, and Zinio. Your temporary account will be good for 30 days. You will need to come into the Library in person (with an approved form of identification, listed below) before the temporary account expires in order to register for a permanent card.
Residents of other Connecticut cities and towns may use their hometown library card at the Wallingford Public Library once they have been entered into our database at the Circulation Desk.
A library card will be issued when the following is presented:
- Valid Connecticut Driver License showing current residential address
OR, any one item from EACH of the following two lists:
Current Picture Identification (I.D.)
- Alien Registration Card
- Military I.D.
- School-issued student I.D.
- Consular I.D. card
- Employee identification card
- Out-of-state driver license
Address Verification (must include name and Wallingford residential address)
- An imprinted bank check or deposit slip
- Current rent receipt (confirming 30 day occupancy)
- Current utility bill dated within the last 30 days
Library Cards for Children and Young People Under 18 Years
Any Wallingford resident (including babies) can get a Wallingford Library card, but please be aware that the parents or legal guardians of people under 18 are responsible for any outstanding fines, bills or overdue material on the child's library card. We therefore require that the parent or legal guardian be present when a person under 18 applies for a library card.
