Computers
The Library is proud to be a state-of-the-art public access computing facility. At the Main Library, we have 36 workstations for adults and teens and 13 for children. Our computers offer a high-speed Internet connection as well as the Microsoft Office 2007 Suite. Four touch-screen early literacy stations in the Children's Department provide educational technology for preschoolers.
Computer use is free, but does require a Connecticut public library card in good standing. Black and white printing costs 10 cents per page, and color printing is 50 cents per page. A large print keyboard, trackball mouse, and iZoom screen magnifier/reader software are available at the Information Desk. For your own safety, anything saved to the hard drive of a library computer is erased at the end the day. Please be sure to save your work to removable storage such as a flash drive or a CD.
We also have a Book Scan Center which allows you to scan documents or photos and e-mail or save them to a flash drive, smartphone, or Google Docs. In addition, you may send faxes with the Book Scan Center for 25 cents per page.
We offer both unsecured Wi-Fi and a secured VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection for those bringing their own wireless devices to the Main Library.
If you wish to set up a secured VPN connection, please follow the instructions below. A print copy of the instructions is available at the Information Desk.
