Children's Booklists & Links
Children who are learning to read benefit from selecting books with a proper mix of support and challenge in order to develop reading strategies and comprehension skills. Leveled books can provide this balance and instill confidence in young readers by enabling them to read books that challenge them without frustrating them. Your child’s teacher can provide you with his or her current reading level.
Two leveling systems widely used by the Wallingford Public Schools are Fountas and Pinnell and DRA. A binder with printed lists is available in the Children’s Department of the Library. Each list includes a variety of fiction and nonfiction titles to enable you and your child to find books that interest them.
Here is a sampling of books available in the Children’s Library by Level:
Guided Reading Level A
Guided Reading Level B
Guided Reading Level C
Guided Reading Level D
Guided Reading Level E
Guided Reading Level F

These databases can also help you find leveled books that are right for your child:
Recommended Reading Lists
In addition to the leveled books, there are many outstanding books in the library that your child will enjoy that do not have levels applied to them. We encourage you to ask a Children’s Librarian to help you find “just right” books for your beginning reader.
