Read and Discuss! Sun, Stone, and Shadows: 20 Great Mexican Short Stories

Wednesday, May 4th at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room

All are welcome to join local resident and Mexico native, Carmen Laine for a discussion of selected stories from this anthology. Books and reader’s guides in either Spanish or English are available. For a copy of the book and a list of selected stories for discussion, please ask at the Information Desk. This program is part of the National Endowment for the Arts 2011 Big Read program.

Sun Safety Screenings

The Wallingford Health Department will offer a sun safety informational program and skin screening conducted by Dana M. Correale, MD, Dermatologist. These educational sessions will be held in the Collins Room of the Main Library on May 5th and May 17th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Free rapid skin screening follows Dr. Correale's talk. Space is limited, registration required, 18 years or older, Wallingford residents only, preference to families with children. One-on-One Computer Tutoring for Novices

One-on-one computer tutoring sessions are available at the Main Library on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Computer novices are encouraged to sign up to learn keyboard or mouse skills, word processing, Internet searching, online job applications, or e-mail. Please call the Library at (203)265-6754 or stop by the Information Desk to book an appointment.

The National Children’s Book Week Book Swap

Don’t forget the Children’s Library’s National Children’s Book Week Book Swap will take place on Saturday, May 7th in the Library’s Community Room from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

This is the only time you can redeem the coupons you’ve received for children’s books you’ve brought in for the swap. We will be accepting children’s books until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6th.

This is a great event and there are lots of great books waiting for you – so please join the fun and get your books in before May 7th.

Mother Nature's Child: Growing Outdoors in the Media Age

Friday, April 29th at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room

Join us for a special screening of Mother's Nature"s Child: Growing Outdoors in the Media Age. This film promotes awareness and support of Connecticut's environmental literacy plan. Parents, teachers, scout leaders and anyone concerned with children and the environment should join us for this opportunity. This film is co-sponsored by the Wallingford Public Library and the Wallingford Conservation Commission.
