Summertime and the Reading Is Easy: Teen Summer Reading Program

Earn prizes by reading books this summer! All teens in grades 6-12 are welcome to participate. No registration is necessary. You may read whatever you like.

The program is super simple…when you have finished reading a book, come to the Information Desk and fill out a prize entry form to qualify to win a prize of your choice. Entry forms will be accepted up until 9 pm on Friday, August 30th. There will be a drawing on Tuesday, September 3rd and all winners will be notified. All participants are eligible for the grand prize drawing: a $50 Wal-Mart gift card.

Poetry Reading: Jonas Zdanys

Tuesday, July 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the Collins Room

Jonas Zdanys is a bilingual poet and translator. He was born in New Britain, CT a few months after his parents arrived in the U.S. from a United Nations camp for Lithuanian refugees. He received his B.A. in English from Yale University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in English from the State University of New York.

He is the author of forty books, the latest, The Kingfisher’s Reign will be featured during his reading. He has received a number of awards and public recognition, the most recent among them an exhibit about his life and work by the National Library of Lithuania.

Holiday Closing

The Library will be closed on Thursday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day. Regular hours resume Friday, July 5th at the Main Library. We tentatively anticipate the Yalesville Branch opening on Tuesday, July 9th, depending on the progress of carpet and furniture installation.

The Book Seller will be closed on Friday, July 5th.

Yalesville Branch Closed June 24th-July 8th

The Yalesville Branch will be closed starting June 24th for installation of carpeting and furniture. We are tentatively scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, July 9th, depending on the progress of the project. The book drop at the Yalesville Branch will be open while the building is closed.

Read ‘Em and Eat: A Summer Reading Program for Adults

Read ‘Em and Eat is an incentive program designed to encourage adults to read and participate as children and teenagers do, in a summer reading program. Anyone 18 years or older is eligible to participate. Adults fill out a review (entry form) for each book they have read. Every two weeks a gift certificate to a local grocery/produce store will be awarded to a randomly drawn entrant. The more books you read, the more you can enter. Entry forms are available from the Information Desk. All entries from the previous weeks' drawings will be entered in the Grand Prize drawing.
